The DSA continues with Promethean! Out today!

November 13, 2019 By Lou

The Bellbrook affair was only the beginning for Ben Riley and the DSA. Promethean continues the first season of the series with a pulse-pounding mystery in the Windy City dealing with a rogue pyrokinetic and murder.

Promethean is available now in paperback and digitally!

What is the Promethean Project?

On the hunt for a lead from the Bellbrook affair, Ben Riley and Morgan Dunleavy discover a dead body and a growing conspiracy. The only clue left behind? A handprint burned into the bone of the victim.

Not everything is what it seems as Connor Hendricks, their FBI liaison, connects this latest death with a series of lab-related arsons.

Caught in a web of lies and illicit drug trials, Ben and Morgan must learn to trust each other or be the next victims of an elusive pyrokinetic.

But is he the killer or merely another victim caught up in a larger game?

The mystery is only the tip of the iceberg as the DSA’s opening season kicks into high gear.

About Promethean

I think this was the moment the idea of the DSA solidified for me. The Clearing was all about setting the stage, but Promethean is where you can see the pieces starting to take a life of their own. Every character gets a moment to shine, but for me the Morgan/Ben dynamic makes the series. I love their interaction and how they evolve throughout the season.

These characters mean more to me than any plot. The way they view the world, their manner of speech and their quirks, are what make writing the DSA so enjoyable. I hope you’re able to see that on the published page.

I can’t wait for you to see where things are headed. Promethean sets up some major revelations for the series.

Thanks for reading!

The Clearing is out now! The DSA starts here!

October 9, 2019 By Lou

And so it begins! The DSA starts here with The Clearing, on sale now!

The residents of Bellbrook, Ohio have vanished.

Seven thousand people in a four-mile radius disappeared overnight. A dead zone remains, no outgoing signals emanating from the ghost town.

Ben Riley, framed for a crime he never committed, is the latest recruit to the Department of Special Assignments—a secret agency handling unsolved cases, those with open questions and unexplainable circumstances. Unsure what to expect or whether or not he deserves this second chance, Ben is thrust into a bizarre case of science gone wrong.

Now, Ben and the rest of the field team must find out what happened to the residents of Bellbrook…before it happens to them.

Welcome to The DSA, an episodic journey told in a seasonal structure. Six episodes make up each season, creating an immersive experience for the reader.

Available now both digitally and in paperback!

I’m really proud of how the paperback turned out. MiblArt killed it on the cover and the design of the series. I did all right on the formatting side of things. I think it’s going to look amazing on the bookshelf.

I’m really excited that I was able to price the paperback at only $9.99. That for me was one of the main reasons behind telling the story in this episodic fashion. I hate the way Greystone is priced at almost $15 for a paperback. Hate it. This way, if there is someone who loves the feel of the book in their hands it is much more economically-friendly.

You can order your paperback copy of The Clearing at the following:

Amazon – US, UK, CA

Barnes and Noble – Right now, Barnes and Noble is only charging $6.99 for a copy!!

More retailers coming soon for the paperback!

The book can be found digitally through the Books2Read link, which will take you to your favorite retailer. Whether you prefer the Kindle store or the Google Play store, Books2Read has every retailer you could want. I love their service and hope you find it user-friendly.

The DSA continues in Promethean… on sale now!

DSA Cover Reveals

September 10, 2019 By Lou

It’s a crazy week at the writing desk. I’m finishing up on The Clearing and getting it ready for publication. Hammer and Anvil is going through one more round of edits before the final readthrough. The October releases are coming together nicely.

Are you ready for what comes next?

Cover Reveal Time!

Promethean

DSA Season One, Book Two arrives November 13th but you can pre-order your copy today!

The Bridge

A sniper’s bullet changed Lincoln MacKenzie’s life forever.

Lincoln has been tasked with a mission: to hunt down the Witness—the enigmatic man behind the tragedy in Bellbrook.

Present and past entwine as Lincoln is forced to make a choice between ending the life of the Witness or saving him from a far more dangerous threat.

Will Lincoln’s desire for revenge outweigh his need for the truth?

Meanwhile, Ben Riley is caught in the middle of a political game as his assessment begins before the Inter-Agency Council. But is the purpose behind his questioning only the opening gambit of a larger plot against not only the Director of the DSA, but the agency itself?

The DSA starts to crumble with this crucial chapter of the series.

DSA Season One, Book Three hits shelves on December 11th. You can pre-order your digital copy now!

Praise for MiblArt

I can’t say enough good things about MiblArt. They came in and helped me out of a real jam in putting these covers together. I absolutely love the look of the series and can’t wait to see them in paperback.

Writing Update – July 23, 2018

July 23, 2018 By Lou

So much going on this month, folks! Let’s get this writing update going!

Writing!

A Circle of Shadows

The proof is in. First copies have been sent to my advance readers. Some feedback has already been trickling in and I’m loving what I’ve been hearing. Lots of praise for where the story goes, quite a few screams as well, but people seem to enjoy the book.

Can’t ask for more than that!

Oh, except that if you should pre-order your copy today!

As people have mentioned certain aspects of the novel, I’ve realized how much A Circle of Shadows changed during the drafting. This is going to make a great author commentary so be sure to grab your copy and read it as soon as you can!

Promethean

Book Two of the DSA is finally coming together. I’ve buckled down this week to finish my first massive pass on the draft. Hoping to have this off my plate by the end of the month.

I’m so happy to have made some real progress on this one. It’s been an editing struggle. Lots learned during the process, some lessons repeated multiple times, in order to refine the narrative and make sense of each character’s role.

Really excited to keep plugging away at the DSA series. It has all my favorite aspects of a conspiracy thriller, heavy in the science-fiction vein.

Ancient Weapons

I put together the script for what will be Book One in a series called Red Epsilon. This one is pure space opera. We’re talking starships and space battles. Aliens and cool weapons. Snarky banter and heartfelt characters.

This one holds a special place in my heart and I’m really working to keep each book in the series standalone. That is a new challenge for me. (DSA goes the opposite way and everything is very interconnected and runs together for a full narrative.)

I think it is the strongest script I’ve put together in a long time and I can’t wait to sit down to start the draft this fall.

Superman

Say what? You’re writing Superman now?

I wish!

I am working on a spec script for the character (in my “spare” time). The idea is to keep my hand in the comic world. To do so, I realized I should be putting more time on crafting comic book scripts in order to better grasp the genre.

Why Superman?

I recently read Man of Steel #2 by Brian Michael Bendis. I won’t give away the whole plot of the issue but there was a sequence early in the book concerning the Toyman. Great villain. Great pathos.

He is in Coast City, rampaging in some giant Kaiju monster. Just destroying the city for no justifiable reason. His motivations completely unknown, the impetus behind his appearance totally lost. A wasted element from a writer claiming Superman doesn’t have many decent villains…

Suffice it to say, I was not a fan.

It made me realize he missed the point of the character. But what is the point of the Toyman? That’s where I started and put together a basic outline for a single issue story utilizing my favorite elements of Superman.

My plan is to finish the script between projects and share it here on the blog.

Interview!

I recently sat down with L.A. Frederick to discuss my writing. You can check out the interview here. And be sure to pick up a copy of The Rain.

Thanks for reading!

Writing Update – June 25, 2018

June 25, 2018 By Lou

Sometimes you can think you’re unstoppable, that when push comes to shove you can move heaven and earth to get the work done.

Then June rolls around…

Writing Update

It’s almost a misnomer. I’m plugging away at DSA Season One and will be for quite some time. The truth of the matter, however, is that the family has come first for the last month. And it should.

I started pouring every waking hour into Greystone back in March 2016. For over two years every nap, every evening and every weekend went into crafting the five novels in the series. It went into marketing. It went into promotion, newsletters, blogs, and every other crazy facet of this world.

Away from my kiddos. Away from my wife.

It hasn’t been fun for them.

This past month showed me that big time.

This summer, I’m restructuring some goals and working on a new way to build what is coming for the next few years. And I’m taking some time to be with my family.

So what’s coming your way?

A Circle of Shadows just arrived in my mailbox this week. I’m reading through it and closing the last minute issues. I think it is the perfect send-off for the series for now. I hope you’ll agree.

The pre-order is live on Amazon for the ebook! Check it out today.

Lots more story to tell in the city of Portents but for now this is goodbye.

I’m buckling down to complete edits on DSA Season One, Book Two entitled Promethean. I love the story involved and the character interactions and hope I can pull it together in the self-editing phase. It’s been a bear of a time working on the details and fleshing out story logic for some long term plans in the series, however, I think you’ll find it all worthwhile when you see the results down the line.

To break away from editing, I’m finally putting an outline together for a new sci-fi, space opera series called Red Epsilon. Five books are planned with more in the offering down the line. It’s a love letter to Star Trek and Babylon 5 about a reluctant crew forced to stand against a growing darkness in the universe. Book One is called Ancient Weapons and I’m hoping to script it out this summer so it is ready to draft during NaNoWriMo this November.

Sci-Fi Valley Con

Thanks to everyone who stopped by my table in Altoona a couple weeks back. It was a fun time meeting new readers and showing them how awesome the Greystone series can be. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the books!

Time to hunker down and get this book DONE!

Thanks for reading.
