Cover Reveal for The Final Gauntlet

June 9, 2020 By Lou

Greystone-in-Training comes to a close this October with the release of Book Three – The Final Gauntlet. This story acts as a bridge, bringing Soriya’s training years to an end while at the same time circling readers back to the Greystone series which will be back with Book Six – Alpha and Omega. (Hoping to share some info on this one later this month.)

The Final Gauntlet Cover Reveal

I’ve been living in Portents lately. My head is firmly locked on where the series needs to go and why each moment should be important in the lives of the cast.

Soriya has a lot to face in this adventure. There is witchcraft, there is the secret doorkeeper who you will see more of in The Gifts of Kali, and there is a closing out of so many characters from the trilogy.

Soriya isn’t the only one graduating to the next level. The Final Gauntlet ties up loose ends and finishes off the arcs started in Hammer and Anvil.

There will be plenty more info coming your way, but for now enjoy the back cover description:

The Daughters of Salem have returned.

A doorway was opened and a threat from the earliest days of Portents has found its way home. The Daughters have a clear mission: to use the power of the doorkeeper and awaken a terrible darkness on the world.

Soriya stands alone to face the threat. To do so, she must protect the magic-wielding doorkeeper—a woman in a desperate search to find her past.

There is more at stake for Soriya, though, as Mentor levels one final test upon her. Should she pass, Soriya will at last earn the mantle of the Greystone.

If she fails, however, all of Portents may succumb to the darkness within their souls.

The Final Gauntlet comes out October 13th.

Writing Update – May 26, 2020

May 26, 2020 By Lou

I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend. Memorial Day is one of my favorite holidays and a nice break away from things. (Most years, anyway…)

Writing in the current climate of homeschooling and news updates has been difficult to say the least. My wife (bless her) has been handling the schooling load so far. It’s taken quite the toll, but I’ve appreciated every minute I’ve had to put some words on the page.

Writing Update

The Gifts of Kali

I read through this bad boy twice this month and plan on a third next week. It’s ready. The proof is in the mail as we speak. I can’t wait to hold it in my hands. This one is a point of pride for me. It came together so nicely, from conception to final draft. You’re going to love this Greystone adventure.

The Final Gauntlet

It’s DONE. The draft and my initial rounds of self-editing are complete. I just sent it off to a couple people to make sure the plot lines up the way I wanted it to in my head.

This one was a tough nut to crack. With books like Kali, as well as Hammer and Anvil, there are pieces already in place. The threats in each come from somewhere in mythology and gives a nice baseline for where the story starts. The Final Gauntlet ties directly into the forming of Portents, so the mythology is all on me. Not only did the book have to close out this chapter of the series, it leads directly into Book Six of the main series.

Fingers crossed that my alpha readers dig it. There are some great character moments in there and, thematically, I think the work as a whole is very strong.

Cover reveal is coming in a couple weeks!

Greystone Serial

Edits took up my month, but I’m hoping to get back to building more of this one in June.

Reading Update

I read some books! It’s crazy, I know.

Black Magnet (Heat Book One) by David Neth

Neth does a great job setting up his superhero trilogy with this initial installment. The dialogue is crisp and the action is a lot of fun. I’m definitely intrigued by the questions asked here. Looking forward to following the story into the next book.

Twist by J.S. Arquin

This is a short prequel to his main series, The Crimson Dust Cycle. It’s a great setup for what is to come. I haven’t read much in the way of LitRPG novels, but Arquin sets up the rules of the game and the systems at play nicely. It’s a good mix of action in the real world as well as the virtual one. The end of the first trilogy in the series just came out and I can’t wait to dive in.

Writing Update – March 24, 2020

March 24, 2020 By Lou

The world came crashing down on everyone this month. I’ve never been good at tuning things out, but the current pandemic has really dampened my productivity of late. I hope everyone is being safe and staying healthy through this crisis.

Now onto the writing update.

Writing Update

The Final Gauntlet

I’m finishing the first draft this week!!! It’s taken far longer than I would have liked, but I’m generally pleased with the results. A lot of cleaning up to do next month, but then the Greystone-in-Training trilogy is complete.

This endeavor has been so rewarding to me as a writer. It was originally meant to be three very short tales (and a proposed fourth that I think is going to work out perfectly somewhere else…). The idea was that these 10,000 word stories would be the perfect bridge between Book 5 and 6 of the main series.

But the way they grew, the way they continue to evolve even in the drafting stage, has been truly astonishing. I absolutely love the way the trilogy has turned out. Hope you feel the same.

Greystone Serial

I was supposed to announce more details for this. Then the world imploded. So I’m giving myself more time to line up the specifics for this project. You’ll hear them soon, I promise.

Sales

Like I said, not much in the way of productivity. (I guess a draft is nothing to sneeze at, but still…) What I have done over the last week is lower the prices of most of my books.

We all need to escape the news every once in a while. Yes, it is great to stay informed. If it comes at the cost of our sanity, though, it really isn’t doing us any good. So let’s unplug and enjoy some fiction, folks!

Hammer and Anvil is also FREE right now!

Greystone: The Complete First Cycle is on sale for only $6.99!

Be smart out there. Be safe.

And happy reading!
